Ways to make your PC run faster.

Hello there! Is your PC slow? Does it make you so pissed off, you want to destroy the ol’ thing? E-Drama Tech to the rescue. Here are some ways.

  • If you use Vista, that’s one of the possible reasons your PC is slow. Vista is mediocre. It takes up over 20 gigabytes of your hard disk. Some ways to make it faster will be listed.
  • Your PC may be slow, because of the happy, gay, glittery, shiny decorative skin you have on Windows. A way to turn this off, is go to control panel>display/personalize>theme> and then select “Windows Classic” as your theme. This speeds up your system drastically. It may not be as pretty to some users, but…You do what you gotta do.
  • Your computer must have had a really random-filed, messy hard disk, right? This means you have not defragmented it in a looooong time. To defragment, go to Start>All programs>Accessories>System tools. Click, “Disk Defragmenter”. This program is like shuffling a deck of cards. It puts the correct files in the correct places, and cleans up your system. This may take from a few minutes to several hours. Be patient. Go watch South Park, or something, while you wait…
  • Your system may have a lot of spyware, or maybe just not have enough attention on some parts. Run your anti-virus software, scanning your whole system. Doing this in safe mode is best.
  • Y’know, you probably have a lot of useless, temporary, or recent, unnecessary on your computer. You know what magical fairy elf program fixes this? CCleaner. It deletes all sorts of useless stuff, it speeds stuff up, reaalll well. You can download a free version here.
  • You shouldn’t use file sharing programs to get files that are in .zip folders, or .php or other files, except text or images, etc. They are virus capable.
  • You may have a bajillion, gazillion, useless programs that pop up when you start up Windows. These include instant messengers, Flash, Quicktime, etc. To stop this, go to start, and then run, (in Vista, you need to press the key with the Windows logo on it, and then press R.) Go to Run, type in “msconfig”, press enter, go to the “startup” tab in the pop up that appears. In this grid, uncheck all the useless programs that startup when Windows starts. Do NOT uncheck system32 programs, or your anti-virus programs. You then need to restart your PC.
  • If you’ve tried any/all of these, and it’s still slow, chances are, you are out of physical memory. Press Control+Alt+Delete, go to task manager, and go to “performance” tab. Look under the memory scale meter. If it’s all the way up, you’re out of memory. Go to Best Buy, or online, to get a stick of RAM. 1GB for XP, 2GB for Vista.  Installing the RAM into your computer varies, so I cannot cover that. Your type of RAM also varies, such as DDR, DDR2, or SD RAM. (RAM is the name for this memory).
  • If none of these work, your computer’s internals may be messy and dirty. Open up the thing, use compressed, canned air and dust everything off. I suggest, if you are a n00b to this (As in have no experience, and don’t want to void your warranty), send your PC to a professional, and they will clean it for you.
  • If none of these worked at all for you, you should consult a PC professional.

This is my guide. Hope it helps. Screen shots may be added later.
